Dog Breeder Certification

As with most other dog-specific jobs, a formal college degree is not required. However, many breeders may have business or animal science-related degrees. Knowledge of animal psychology, anatomy, biology, and reproductive systems are useful. Most beneficial degrees include physiology, genetics, nutrition, and veterinary studies. Also, business courses such as technology, marketing, advertising, and communications are all helpful in running your own business. You must be able to fully understand dogs, their behavior, aesthetics, breed traits, and the characteristics that are popular within breeds. Grooming skills are essential and are either learned by apprenticeship or trade school.
