Schools and Training to Become a Painter

While “on the job” training is the most likely course of study to start your career as a professional painter, taking a course at a technical college to hone your painting skills is also a popular option. While almost anyone can paint, it requires ability, focus and most importantly patience to paint well. There are many tricks to being a successful painter including understanding temperature, timing, the properties of different materials and some degree of light chemistry when applying paints or other chemicals to a variety of surfaces. Like most trade jobs you are expected to have a GED and be proficient at your craft, especially when working for established contractors, construction companies, management businesses or any governmental or municipal entities. Apprenticeships are usually the preferred “in-depth” method of training that will adequately prepare you for this career.
