For the most part the only state license a painter needs is a valid driver’s license. Local governments may have separate licensing requirements. Some jobs working for building management companies and large construction firms may require the painters to be bondable (free of a criminal record) and have dependable references from clients and journeymen with whom they have apprenticed.
