It’s no shock, most of us don’t prioritize self care like we should and I’m far from
the exception. I grew up learning I had scoliosis early in high school and chiropractic visits became a regular part of my health and wellness routine. When I went to college and didn’t have my mom making sure I made my visits, eventually I attended the chiropractor less and less. Between learning to balance school and work and diving into the professional world, I hit a point where massage became something I only did when there was time in my schedule. It was often a decision made on a whim versus something I worked into a steady wellness routine.
I took a pretty extreme jump career wise a little over a year and a half ago and while I’ve truly fallen in love with the automotive industry, the stress or the job coupled with the unconventional hours keep everything feeling tense beyond relief. I’ve had many great massages through the years, but very few that actually benefitted me beyond leaving the table. Between working a massage into a busy schedule, finding someone you’re comfortable with and getting past the idea that you may be paying for yet another service that you’re not totally happy with- it’s hard to commit to a booking. Recently a dear friend of mine, Elle McComas: The Massage Therapist, made the effort to get me on her table and show me the benefits of her services. Elle practices on Quarrier street and is soon moving to a prime location right downtown. Though I’ve yet to see the new spot, immediately upon entering her area, I knew I had a relaxing hour and a half ahead of me.
I was truly so tired, mentally and physically, when Elle asked about areas I wanted to target, I didn’t do a great job elaborating and simply told her “everywhere” as an area of focus. I didn’t make her aware I had Scoliosis, nor did I mention my sciatic nerve damage. I didn’t really go into this appointment as the best patient, giving her all the information she needed to give me the best experience. Somehow, even without the slightest bit of information that could help her do her best work, Elle was able to work her magic and almost draw out the areas I really needed extra attention. As someone who loves a deep tissue massage, I often end up leaving a massage sore. While a lot of massage technique involves discomfort at times, I do think a lot of times the balance between pain and relief are lost. That couldn’t be further from the truth with Elle. While she took lead and somehow knew exactly what I needed, I didn’t leave or wake up the next day feeling as rough as I have after a lot of massages previously.
I’m now a week post treatment with Elle, and knots have continued to unwind. Areas that had been so tense it didn’t seem possible to work out the kinks were finally relaxing. Aside from physically feeling a difference throughout my body, Elle’s work carried over into my work week (I’m off on Mondays, so I was lucky enough to start out my week with this service). I felt like I started the week with a clearer head, more rested than normal. I’ve been sleeping better and have been tossing and turning less.
I also think it’s worth mentioning that Elle’s brand, The Massage Therapist, is as thoughtful as her treatment. Her custom designed cards showcase her own version of the Strength card from major arcana of a tarot deck. Anyone familiar with a deck of tarot cards will thoroughly enjoy her play on wording and concept with her brand.
I want to finish by saying times are tough for everyone, so choosing where to spend your money involves a lot more thought than it used to. I can’t imagine anyone will leave a session with Elle: The Massage Therapist, unhappy with where they chose to spend their money. Make sure to go through her website and look at the extensive list of services she offers. There’s truly something for everyone and I hope you’re able to choose you, and spend a session on Elle’s table.
