The Canine Good Citizen Program teaches good manners to dogs, and responsible dog ownership to their owners. The 10-step CGC test is a non-competitive test for all dogs, including purebreds and mixed breeds.

It is a prerequisite for many therapy dog groups and some homeowner’s insurance companies encourage CGC testing. There are also an increasing number of apartments and condos that require resident dogs to pass the CGC test.

Wandering Wags is a guided pack walk exclusively for current Ruff Life clients, held on the last Sunday of each month. These outings are designed to help dogs and their humans practice training skills in real-world environments while receiving support and coaching from our training team.

Each excursion begins with a short mini-lesson, where we introduce a training focus and review practical strategies you can immediately apply during the walk. From there, participants engage in hands-on, guided practice as we move together as a group, working on skills such as loose-leash walking, neutrality around other dogs and people, engagement with handlers, and calm behavior in stimulating environments.

Pack walks provide valuable opportunities for dogs to build confidence, improve social skills, and learn to exist calmly around distractions while maintaining appropriate structure and guidance. For owners, Wandering Wags offers continued learning, real-time coaching, and a chance to connect with other Ruff Life clients who are working toward similar goals. The shared experience creates a supportive community environment where both dogs and humans can grow their confidence, strengthen relationships, and enjoy training together beyond a traditional class setting.

obedience while deepening the bond between you and your dog. Learn essential commands such as "place," "leave it," "walk," "heel," "stay," and "recall" through positive reinforcement techniques. Each week, we'll work on refining these skills, ensuring clarity and consistency in your training approach. By the end of the course, you'll have the tools and knowledge to effectively train these commands and enjoy a harmonious relationship filled with mutual understanding and trust.

Thursdays at 6:15pm
This course focuses on teaching you how to communicate with your dog using the leash and thus working towards a loose leash walk. We will practice the walk, heel, and leave it command. We will teach you how to work with your dog to maintain a loose leash when walking around other dog, past other dogs, and in different environments. The last week of this class will take place in a public spot in order to practice around new distractions. This course is not appropriate for dogs who are experiencing extreme reactivity or struggle to be in a room with multiple other dogs.

This 1-hour session is designed for dogs who need a more individualized, focused approach to training. If we’ve recommended specialized training after your consultation, this is where we target more intensive training.

These one-on-one sessions are tailored to dogs with a bite history, human-directed aggression, or those working on more advanced or specialized skills. We focus on building clear communication, improving safety and handling, and creating practical, realistic training plans that you can use consistently in your daily life.

Our goal is to meet your dog where they are without judgment and support both of you with structured guidance, honest feedback, and a plan that makes sense in the real world.

The goal of this course is to gain the attention of your dog in new environments and to create a strong foundation for recall. Activities include working around distractions, teaching your dog to respond to their name, and improving their ability to come when called.

Do you dream of having a calm, relaxed dog that you can bring with you to a restaurant or brewery? This 4 week course will give you the tools necessary to work on engagement around distractions, creating a calm mindset, and how to simply exist even with other people and dogs around. Some commands we will be working with include place, settle, down, leave it. By the end of this course we hope to have you comfortable on working the skills necessary to begin to bring your pet out in public.

Thursdays 6:15-7:15pm

This beginner’s course teaches the foundations of all of these commands so that you are able to then build off of them in your own home.

Challenge your dog’s brain and do something new and exciting together! A variety of functional and just-for-fun tricks will be taught.
