Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are conditions involving the temporomandibular joints, jaw muscles and related structures. Massage and manual therapy techniques are utilized for working with the muscles involved in chewing and jaw movement to help alleviate symptoms of jaw tension, tenderness, difficulty with jaw movement, clicking and other changes in jaw function.
Long hours on a computer or phone can leave the eyes feeling tired and the brow, temples, and neck tense. Sustained close-up focus, glare, and reduced blinking can contribute to eye strain, while leaning toward a screen or looking down for extended periods adds strain to the neck and shoulders. These patterns can occur together, contributing to discomfort around the eyes and headaches. Looking at the face and neck together helps us consider the muscular tension that may accompany your screen-heavy day. With this we target tension with a synergistic combination of neck, face and head massage with acupressure.
There are two main areas of tension; ocular and jaw. A person may have a little of both, but one of these areas will be primary. In this routine, specific areas of the neck are used as anchor holds while corresponding facial points are contacted. Within acupressure practice, these paired holds are used to promote relaxation in particular regions of the face. In this routine, one neck position is paired with the ocular region, while another is paired with the TMJ region. Shiatsu is synergistically integrated into the acupressure for a more complete facial relaxation.
Face, neck, traps head and shoulder massage are layered through the facial arc and followed by our acupressure shiatsu facial relaxer. Other services are integrated into this facial massage as needed.
We utilize a complete clinical system inclusive of a TMJ assessment combined with a practical framework for assessing neck condition and selecting the right treatment. Our advanced neck massage techniques target neck pain, stiffness, posture and manual therapy.
