The American Kennel Club, Inc. Overview

The AKC Safety in the Salon course is the central part of the program. This exhaustive, three-section class is taught by Susan Divine Sholar, organizer of the International College of Pet Careers, to give indispensable training on animal wellbeing and best practices in the grooming salon. Sholar has been grooming dogs and cats for more than 40 years, including 15 years as a grooming educator. Susan turned a “leisure activity” into her life’s work.

Course Topics:

• Covers best practices for pet care, wellbeing and security
• Learn groomer and salon standards and how to deal with uncommon cases
• Become educated about pet infections, avoiding mishaps and practicing good sanitation
• Understand the best methods to guarantee pet security while in groomer/salon care

You can take the AKC Safety in the Salon course online through Canine College, AKC’s educational portal. It is also available as an in-person class at groom expos and industry public exhibitions around the nation.
