The goal of Phase 1 is to reduce panic, increase predictability, and establish emotional safety. Before any exposure or skill-building can happen, the dog must feel regulated enough to learn.

This phase focuses on:
• Preventing rehearsal of fear responses
• Reducing overall arousal and anxiety
• Creating clear structure and predictability
• Teaching calm behavior through choice, not pressure
• Building the dog’s ability to settle and recover

Phase 1 is appropriate for dogs who:
• Panic or vocalize when left alone
• Escalate quickly in stressful situations
• Shut down or become frantic
• Cannot currently tolerate exposure-based training

All training in this phase is intentionally slow, controlled, and protective of the dog’s nervous system.

Enrollment is phase-specific.
Progression to Phase 2 occurs only when Phase 1 criteria are met.

Phase 2 builds on the emotional safety established in Phase 1 and carefully expands the dog’s tolerance to the world.

This phase focuses on:
• Working at the edge of the dog’s comfort zone
• Micro-exposure without flooding
• Look-and-retreat patterns
• Preserving choice and control during exposure
• Improving recovery after stress

Phase 2 is appropriate for dogs who:
• Can remain regulated in controlled environments
• Are ready for gentle exposure with structure
• Can disengage and recover with support

Exposure in this phase is intentional, limited, and reversible. We do not push through fear or force confidence.

Phase 2 is only available after Phase 1 criteria are met.

Phase 3 supports real-life functionality where appropriate.

This phase focuses on:
• Calm behavior in limited real-world settings
• Short, supported outings
• Public neutrality (not friendliness)
• Transition planning and maintenance strategies

Phase 3 is appropriate for dogs who:
• Can recover from stress without escalation
• Are emotionally stable enough for real-world practice
• Need support transitioning skills into daily life

Not all dogs complete Phase 3, and completion is not required for success. For many dogs, long-term stability is achieved before this phase.
