Behavioral Assessment

For puppies 6 months old or younger with age appropriate vaccination status!

This is a 6 week class designed for socialization and positive exposure to new people, dogs, textures, and sounds in a public place. Instruction will include potty training advice, crate/confinement training suggestions, how to curb puppy mouthing/nipping, and some introduction to some basic manners skills such as sit, come, wait, and leash walking. This class will fulfill AKC S. T. A. R. Puppy requirements!

Where appropriate, we will also introduce some play time between well-matched puppies and discuss what healthy play looks like, how to advocate for our dogs to keep our dogs enjoying play, and when and how to stop play that's getting out of hand.

This class is Fear Free and positive reinforcement based, meaning no choke chains, no prong collars, no E-collars. Please bring your puppy on a comfortable collar or harness and a standard 6 foot leash. NO retractable leashes!

Bring 1-2 cups of pinky nail sized soft treats (you can use a freeze dried dog food like Dr. Marty's to replace pup's breakfast if you'd like)! We use a LOT of food, so while sometimes we use very high value treat food like cheese or a chicken nugget, we can't use that all the time or it will be unhealthy.

This class is designed for puppies and dogs 6 months old and up (or otherwise approved) with no history of reactivity (continuous barking, whining, lunging, growling etc) towards strangers or other dogs.

This is a beginner level course for dogs in public spaces, working on emotional regulation, handler focus, impulse control, real world distractions, recall, and leash manners with an emphasis on meeting your dog where they are and building cooperation and mutual success, not creating a robot! You and your dog will have fun and learn new skills to help navigate the world together. Previous training is very helpful but not required.

Dogs must come on a standard 6 foot leash and comfortable harness or collar. No prong, choke chain, or E-collars permitted! BRING TREATS! At least 1 cup of pinky-nail sized soft treats.

Positive exposure to the world, sights, sounds, people, dogs etc, is critical for our YOUNG puppies to grow up confident and brave, but puppies aren't fully protected from sicknesses like Parvo until their vaccinations are all finished. So what can we do?

Join a structured casual hour-long stroller walk to keep pup's paws off the ground while we safely explore dog-friendly environments in SE Connecticut! Ages 8 weeks to 14 weeks, size dependent! Location varies each class.

A sanitized stroller is available for each puppy in class to use! Puppy's owner must be able to push the stroller and walk along with the group in order to fully participate in class. Adults are responsible for pushing the stroller, though respectful children are welcome to attend!

Bring treats and a chew toy or blanket to help pup feel at home in the stroller!

Puppy Off-Leash Social Hour! For puppies 6 months and under with at LEAST 2 rounds of Parvo/distemper vaccinations. Puppies over 16 weeks must show rabies certificate. Proof of all vaccinations required.

Monitored by professionals, we will be setting all attendees up for success, providing structured introductions, body language assessment, and appropriate moderation during free play. Puppies that are not enjoying their visit or showing aggression may be requested to leave at any point at moderators' discretion.

Come prepared to stick near your puppy and help referee their play and supervise. Advocate for your pup at all times and clean up after them.
